WE ARE SOUTHWEST DETROIT
This vibrant community is as colorful as the buildings and murals that dot the main thoroughfares of Bagley and Vernor streets. Restaurants are plentiful, with the aromas of fresh tortillas and baked goods wafting in the air and a wide array of cuisines are represented from Mexican to Dominican to Venezuelan. The borders are the subject of debate. Some say it begins at the old train station and ends at Clark Park. Others insist it includes Clark Park. More than a few people expand its spread all the way to Livernois. Others say the name Mexicantown doesn’t go far enough to describe this diverse community. No matter what you think the borders are, the one thing everyone can agree on is that the unique neighborhood is rich in history and culture.
